NATS – Great Dun Fell
ION have an ongoing relationship with the National Air Traffic Service for the design of replacement critical infrastructure in their remote sites across the UK.
The radar surveillance site at Great Dun Fell is located at one the highest points in the Pennines, Cumbria and experiences extreme weather conditions. As a result the building is highly sealed and heated via a series of mechanical ventilation systems. These were originally installed in the 1980s and were inefficient.
ION worked with NATS in the design of new variable speed drives and BMS controls to modify the control strategy. This resulted in a 60% reduction is fuel consumption.
